Australia's waterways are many and varied, from lakes and wide slow rivers to small creeks and waterways, many of which are dry for much of the year. But this leaves quite a few very good navigable rivers to cruise along with a houseboat. The Murray River in South Australia, and Victoria, (New South Wales borders the Murray but doesn't own it!),the Murrumbidgee River in New South Wales is navigable in some parts, the Lower Hawkesbury River is navigable, as are some of the northern rivers in New South Wales and some in southern Queensland.
